About this opportunity
A new prize from Fundación SGAE, run with La Madraza, the contemporary culture centre of the University of Granada, and named for the Cordoban rapper and poet Gata Cattana. It was created to encourage and recognise young writers working in rap and urban music, and the money is substantial for a first edition: 11,700 euros in total, split as 6,000 for first place, 3,000 for second, 1,500 for third and 1,200 for fourth. Entry is open to composers under 30 who are members of SGAE. That membership condition is the first thing to check, because it rules out anyone unaffiliated no matter how strong the track. Works written in co-authorship are accepted and there is no limit on length. Submissions are made electronically, by email to the foundation, with the documentation set out in the guidelines, and close at 23:59 on the deadline day. Four finalist compositions are then selected and performed live at a final concert at the University of Granada on 30 October 2026, where the placings are decided. Everything — the call, the guidelines, the process — is in Spanish. As a first edition there is no history to study: no past winners, no pattern in what the jury has rewarded before. That cuts both ways. You are working without a map, but there is also no established house style to write towards.
